According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, an average of 700 - 1000 women is registered as victims of human trafficking each year in the Federal Republic of Germany. All experts agree that this is only the tip of the iceberg. It is estimated that each year more than 10,000 women in the country are exploited or forced to work as prostitutes.
The estimated number of women who are yearly smuggled, traded and exploited within Europe is in the hundreds of thousands.
The majority of women are between 18 and 25 years old. The number of minor victims is not insignificant. Especially alarming is the number of unrecorded cases of forced prostitution.
